1 Sentence (Eyeblink Pitch)

Summary

The 1 sentence answers “what does your company do?”, typically in 6 words or less.

The 1 sentence is a quick summary of the company, sometimes called an eyeblink pitch. It’s the answer to “what does your company do?” - a question, which every founder gets every time they meet someone new (and often when they catch up with an acquaintance that can’t quite remember).

I recommend keeping it to 6 words or less and choosing descriptors that will help a knowledgable investor immediately understand why your company is interesting. Think about the broader themes and market waves that your startup leverages or interacts with and try to include them in your company summary.

For Cisco, the 1 sentence is famously “Cisco networks networks.” For my last startup, Chobolabs, the keywords were “mobile eSports,” which can be used in a 1 sentence like this ”Chobolabs is a mobile eSports startup” or “Chobolabs is bringing eSports to mobile.” Obviously, we were leveraging the eSports industry, which was a tear at the time.
